Today you don’t have to travel to Provence or Tuscany to delight in the magic of lavender.
For example, the Pacific Northwest of North America has a plethora of lavender farms in the Lower Mainland, the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, and the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State.
If you find yourself meandering the Pacific Northwest there is a good chance that you will stumble upon a field of purple plenty during the lavender months of June to August.
For true lavender lovers, a visit to Sequim (pronounced 'S'kwim') is a must. ‘The Lavender Capital of North America’ on the Olympic Peninsula, Washington is bathed in purple glory throughout the summer months! Be certain not to miss their Annual Lavender Festival!
Lavender growers are also found throughout Oregon and California. Portland, Oregon for example, also boasts an Annual Lavender Festival and invites visitors to travel along Portland's own Lavender Route which winds from lavender farm to lavender farm.
California has the benefit of combining wine and lavender together. Culinary delights await at every turn in the summer months and festivals are organized in communities throughout the state.
In addition to the Northwest, lavender growers are found in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Massachusetts, Virginia and North Carolina - even Texas and Arkansas. From plantations to cottage gardens, lavender growers can be big or small. The best is to visit in person to delight all your senses with the beauty of lavender.
