Travel Australia in Search of Lavender

Australia Overview

June to August is not the only time of year to enjoy lavender fields in bloom. If your travels take you to Australia, you can trade your typical northern climate 'January blues' for January lavender blues!

Depending on the region you are traveling to, in Australia lavender is in bloom from October to January.  From small family lavender farms offering garden tours, accommodation and tea with scones, to the world renowned Tasmanian fields of lavender, Australia offers it all.

Browse the few farms selected here and perhaps you will be able to plan a lavender farm visit into your touring holiday.

For more information you can also contact the The Australian Lavender Growers' Association (TALGA) .

Lavande Aromatiques

Situated in sunny Narrandera in the beautiful Australian N.S.W Riverina, Lavande Aromatiques Lavender Farm has been described as an oasis and is certainly worth a visit.

They are Australian worldwide suppliers for dried lavender - essential lavender oil and hydrosols - hand crafted lavender skin care products and gift items.

Lavande Lavender Farm began on a small acreage in Bells Estate, Narrandera in May 2000. Ironically, the idea to grow Lavender arose from not wanting to spend weekends mowing the lawn. Now instead of lawn there is an established Lavender farm (Lavandula x intermedia and Lavandula angustifolia) with the majority of plants being distilled for oil. The farm continues to expand.

Tasmania
Bridestowe Estate Lavender Farm

The Bridestowe Estate Lavender Farm established in 1921, is one of the world's largest single commercial lavender farms, producing the finest quality lavender flowers and lavender oil, used traditionally in the perfumery industry. The Bridestowe plantations have made Tasmania famous worldwide for its lavender.

A guided tour of the Bridestowe Estate has become a popular attraction for visitors and locals alike. When in flower, the fields offer a spectacular scene set in a superb bushland setting with a backdrop of distant mountains (don't forget to bring your camera). Come by car or join one of the many bus tours that operate from most major centres. These are available most days during the flowering season.

Bridestowe Estate Lavender Farm produces, on site, lavender flowers as well as lavender oil, and from these materials the Bridestowe manufacturing division produces Tasmanian made lavender products which make ideal souvenirs and gifts.

The farm consists of 120 acres of rolling fields of lavender and is considered one of Tasmania's most spectacular sights during flowering in December and January. The five-week harvest begins in early January with the distillation and processing of the lavender in full swing. The air of tranquility, subtle fragrance and beauty of Bridestowe continues to attract visitors throughout the year.
